Touching the Heart Award
Celebrating & Capturing the Spirit of Education

Touching the Heart Awards recognizes and spotlights teachers who are making a difference in today's community. They have the SPIRIT and passion of what teaching is all about!! Nominations are now being accepted for:

Teacher - A teacher that is Touching the Heart of students, school community and/or families. A teacher that inspires or leads by example. A teacher that has the passion and spirit of education and teaches from their heart.

Application Form:
Anyone can fill out an application and nominate a teacher. Part of the application form will be to write a 1,500 words-or-less essay about the person nominated. Entries will be broken into four (4) categories - teachers in Elementary, Middle School and High School and a category for Teachers Teaching Teachers, and Retired Teachers.

Deadline:

Deadline: Received by May 1, 2004 by 5:00 p.m. either by mail or email. Finalists will be notified by June 1, 2004.

Judging:
Pre-judging of submissions will be done through a grading process for a selection of semi-finalists. Based on the grading process, judges will select the three (3) finalists in each school category. We will notify the finalists by June 1, 2004. We also have four special awards - to the teacher selected through submissions by current or former students (2 finalists), Legacy Award, Teachers Teaching Teachers and Teachers who are Retired (if you submit for this category – you must know how to contact the retired teacher).

The Awards Show will be held at the Hyatt Regency Los Angeles on July 17, 2004.

Judging Criteria:

• All entries submitted must be received by 5:00 p.m. on May 1, 2004.
• Anyone can submit a nomination and enter as many nominations as they wish.
• The entry form must be complete.
• The entry must include a 1,500 words-or-less essay on the nominee.

In addition to the 1,500 words-or-less essay, briefly provide answers to the following - answer to these three questions can be incorporated into one answer.

1. Why do you think this person deserves recognition? How have they been 'touching the heart' with their students or community?
2. What challenges did they have to overcome either personally or within the work that they were doing?
3. What do you want the judges to pay careful attention to in considering this submission?

SUBMISSION RULES:

• Each entry must include a completed entry form, a story or essay of 1,500 words (more or less), and answer the 3 questions above.
• You may enter as many nominees as you wish, but each nominee must be submitted separately. Nominations will be accepted if all the pages are stapled together or are contained within a folder.
