BIOGRAPHICAL PROFILE
Marta E. Sanchez
Dr.
Sanchez began her career in education as an elementary school teacher
at a young age and advancing to a professor and supervisor in the Graduate
School of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara where
she was responsible for curriculum, supervision of credential students
and program development.
She worked in Migrant Education as a Migrant Instructional Support
Teacher in the Santa Barbara Tri-Counties and as professor at California
State University, Northridge for 18 years and served as the Director
of the Operation Chicano Teacher Program. In 1991, she became the first
Latina in the California State University system to be awarded the Distinguished
Teaching Award for excellence in teaching and commitment to students.
She has received numerous recognitions for her work in education from
U.S. Congress, California State Legislature (Senate and Assembly), Office
of the Mayor of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles City Council and the
Los Angeles Unified School District.
Dr. Sanchez currently is a professor of education in the Graduate School
of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University where she holds
the position of Regional Area Director of the Masters/Credential Program
at the San Fernando Campus. She serves as a course mentor and is the
Director of the Self-Reliance Foundation, Graduate Fellows Program.
Additional, she is Directing a National Science Foundation Grant and
coordinates with the major Los Angeles Museums to bring science to Latino
families through the "Celebra La Ciencia" Project. Dr. Sanchez serves
on Board of Directors for the American Diabetes Association (San Fernando)
and the California Association of Bilingual Educators. She remains rooted
in her community and is involved in community based organizations such
as the Latino Arts Council and Latin American Civic Association (early
childhood education).
She holds a B.A., M.A., Community College Credential, California Teaching
Credential, Bilingual Specialist Credential, Administrative Services
Credential Ph.D., University of California, Santa Barbara. |
